Netpoint Manager – Plugins – Package Manager

The Package Manage plugin allows to manage software installation packages.

In any organization there are different departments with different software configuration.

Instead of installing software “one by one”, make your custom software packages and deploy it on clients every time you need.

 

1. Building the package

 

Open the PackageManegerPI tab:

Press “View” –> “PackageManagerPI”

To add a new package click the “New” Netpoint Manager - Plugins - Package Manager2 button.

To remove exist package click the “Remove” Netpoint Manager - Plugins - Package Manager3 button.

To edit exit package, select it from list and edit the parameters.

 

Fill in the relevant parameters:

 

Name: Give a name to the package.

 

Description: put some text to describe the package.

 

Files: Add the installation files or folders to “Files” section.

To add a single files click the “Add files” button. browse to the file and click “open”

To add installation folder click the “Add folders” button. Browse to folder and click “OK”.

For example :

Actions tab: Here you should configure the syntex of the installation.

Point on a line and press the right-click. An options list pops up:

The list shows the optional location off the installation file.

 

Note: When applying the package on the client, it first copies the files into :
c:\windows\temp\packages\download\”The name of package”
The {packagetemp} expression relates to that location.

 

Usually select the {packagetemp}\”xxxxxx.xxx” option.

And in our example :

Note: When adding an installation folder, it copies the folder to the destination above, so the full path in the “actions” tab should be:  {packagetemp}\”folder name”\”xxxxx.xxx”.
For example:  {packagetemp}\office2007\setup.exe

 

 

Type the argument in the relevant field.

 

Note: Put arguments for silent installation. Every software can use different arguments.

 

Note: For MSI file installation put the msiexec.exe in “File” section and the rest of the command in the “Arguments” section.
For example, installation of Wordview:

msiexec.exe    |      /i {packagetemp}\wordview_en-us\wordview.msi /qn

 

 

Advanced tab:

Here you can configure some properties for the installation:

Restart after install – Restart the client after finishing all installations in package.

Run as – Select which user will run the installations.

Time to Wait – Time to wait for a installation to finish, so the next one will start:

“0” – don’t wait. Run all of them at the same time (not recommended!).

“-1” – Wait until the end of each installation.

X – X seconds to wait ,Unless it finished before.

 

Note: All of those setting can be also set in the task applying level.

 

At last, press the “Save” button. Wait till the package updates in the server.

 

 

 

2. Install the package

 

After creating the package we can deploy in on clients.

In the menu bar, Press “Plugins” –> “PackageManagerPI” –> “Install package”

(Or click the “Install package” icon Netpoint Manager - Plugins - Package Manager4 one menu bar)

Select the relevant package.

If needed type the relevant parameters.

Select clients. Schedule it if needed. press the “Apply” button.
